Chanel's Retrospective Exhibition

A journey to enjoyable and rare pieces about the history of Chanel, a world brand: Gabrielle Chanel Fashion Manifesto.

Chanel, one of the world-famous brands of fashion, comes to the fore with a new fashion exhibition. The exhibition, opened at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London in September 2023 and displaying Coco Chanel's original designs and materials from the period when Chanel was founded, exhibits works of art of the brand's past that have never been unearthed before. In the exhibition, called "Gabrielle Chanel Fashion Manifesto", it is possible to encounter 180 different areas from perfume to jewelry, from accessories to cosmetics. At the same time, there is a range from Coco Chanel's first tiny boutique in Paris in 1910 to her latest collection, which she has designed until 1971. Palais Galliera and Patrimoine, which also have their signatures on some collections, are among those that take their place in the archive of this exhibition.

On the other hand, Miren Arzalluz, the director of the Palais Galliera, who is very excited about the exhibition, emphasizes the themes of elegance and timelessness: "Gabrielle Chanel has dedicated her life to creating, perfecting and promoting a new elegance based on freedom of movement, a natural and casual pose, and a timeless style that avoids all extravagance. It was her fashion manifesto, a legacy that never goes out of fashion. Underlying her success is not only the functionality, comfort and stylish elegance of her designs, but also her ability to comprehend and interpret the needs and desires of the women of her time. ”

The exhibition, which took place in partnership with the Palais Galliera and Paris Musees, was divided into eight different themes. Highlights of this exhibition include British Model Anne Gunning, Hollywood stars Lauren Bacall and Marlene Dietrich. It is also possible to see the journey of designs made of Chanel's signature tweed fabrics. You can visit the City of Paris Fashion Museum to see Gabriel Coco Chanel's 60-year fashion adventure and all the details of this adventure.
